Get to Know the FW16/17 Shoe Trends

As I have probably mentioned in the past, there is one specific fashion term I hate and that term is the magical…

Trends come and go, last up to three seasons (no, I don’t really know how long they last, I’m just a pure know-it-all) and drive you to crazy purchases that you later run the chance of regretting. So, what’s the reason for this post? I like shoes – correction, I love them. And specifically this season’s shoes. Therefore, don’t get me wrong, the end justifies the means.

This fall we’re bringing out the big guns; metallics, patent leather, embelishments and all kinds of goodies. Statement pieces will be huge. In fact, are they ever not?

  • Velvet touch

Velvety boots, especially, but also multiple kinds of flats will become your soft, luxurious bff. And just like the following styles, your choices could range between budget or splurge-worthy.

1. 3.1 Phillip Lim, 2. Stuart Weitzman, 3. Steve Madden, 4. River Island, 5. Steve Madden

  • Ballerina show-off

I, personally, am not a huge fan of this shoe type. Even as a little girl I was never into this kind of shoe. I have to admit, though, this new version that has taken the runways by storm has potential. Miu Miu and Valentino have showed some extra love to the new-age bizarre ballet flats and we’ve mostly seen them in the tie-up style. Just go through your Instagram recommendations and take a look. There are girls all over the world already rocking the trend and it looks promising. Tutu skirts are optional but also everywhere right now.

1. Miu Miu, 2. Mango, 3. No. 21, 4. Marni, 5. Miu Miu, 6. Valentino

  • My furry old friend

Fur is a must when the colder days arrive. Especially since faux fur was no longer considered a faux pas, fluffiness has conquered the winter runways. To be fur (lol, see what I did there?) I already own too many faux-fur pieces as I both love and can’t stand the cold and yet it never feels enough because I got greedy and I NEED MORE. So, take a chance and do your feet a favour by surrounding them with fluffiness ❤

1. Fendi, 2. Charlotte Olympia, 3. Miu Miu, 4. Dolce & Gabbana, 5. Salvatore Ferragamo

  • A Fancy Howdy

Let your inner cowgirl out with some country inspired pieces. This season fancy, metallic hues seem to be at the center of interest. Pair your booties with some cow-milking and you’re good to go. Just don’t do it in the subway – it appears to freak some people out…

  • Battle of the boots

Combat boots have made their comeback and if you were thinking what to do with those old Doc Martens you keep stashed somewhere, now is the time to bring them back out. These look to be in a great love affair with the ballerina trend, so go on and pair them with a midi tutu skirt. Avril Lavigne was always ahead of time.

1. Kendall + Kylie, 2. Balmain, 3. Valentino, 4. Fausto Puglisi, 5. Fendi, 6. Dr Martens

  • Socked

I love love love this shoe. I love how this kind of boot embraces the ankle and shows off one of the sexiest parts of a woman’s figure. Take a closer look at the way Kanye’s Yeezy Season 2 boots looked on the models. Not convinced yet?

1. René Caovilla, 2. Mango, 3. LaModa, 4. Yeezy, 5. Valentino, 6. Aquazzura, 7. Maison Margiela, 8. Valentino

  • Heeling power

Is it round, perspex, wooden? Either way, it’s definitely a block heel.

1. Givenchy, 2. Alexander McQueen, 3. Topshop, 4. Ego, 5. LaModa, 6. Zara

  • The King’s Shoes

These things are tricky, I must warn you. When tried on, they never look the way you’d expect them to. So find your ideal piece and rock the comfort with pretty much anything, from skinny jeans, to trousers and midi skirts. Lux materials and prints seem to be in the spotlight for this season.

1. Topshop, 2 Topshop, 3. Gucci, 4. Jil Sander, 5. Gucci, 6. Nicholas Kirkwood, 7. Gucci

  • Chunky & Sassy

Last winter platform shoes were kind of silently set aside. This year they seem to make a strong comeback, as well, with all eyes on boots.

1. Marc Jacobs, 2. Jeffrey Campbell, 3. Miu Miu, 4. Balenciaga, 5. Saint Laurent, 6. Zara, 7. Gianvito Rossi
